Downloadable Study Materials:

Airplane Flying Handbook– The airplane flying handbook is an FAA created training guide. While we suggest you purchase a hardcopy for notes and tabbing (available in the office), the PDF version is excellent for quick reference on your tablet.

Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge–The Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge and the Airplane Flying Handbook are both required for private pilot students. As you will find out shortly after you start training, they are both excellent reference books to have on hand for the duration of your career.

Aeronautical Information Manual– The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) is the guide by which the FAA distributes regulatory practice. Some call the AIM an aviation bible, however we like to think of it as a paper back knowledge bank. While we suggest you purchase a hardcopy for notes and tabbing (available in the office), the PDF version is excellent for quick reference on your tablet.

Instrument Flying Handbook– A guide to flying in Instrument Meteorological conditions published by the FAA. While we suggest you purchase a hardcopy for notes and tabbing (available in the office), the PDF version is excellent for quick reference on your tablet. *This book is not required for your private pilot license.

Other FAA Publications:

Federal Aviation Regulations, or FAR– If the AIM is an aviation “Bible” the FAR is aviation law.
